The Lansdowne Veterinary Clinic provides a special comfort room for grieving pet owners. It is a quiet, dimly lit space that allows you to spend as much time as you need with your pet. Our veterinary staff is trained in bereavement. We care deeply about all of our clients and patients. We are here to help you through this difficult time. We will be glad to discuss the many options you have after your pet has passed, such as burial and cremation.
The Grieving Process
Bringing a pet into our homes is a huge responsibility. We provide a loving, safe, and healthy environment for our pets. Our pets are with us through marriages, divorces, the birth of children, and the loss of loved ones. Pets endure separation and welcome us back enthusiastically. They love us unconditionally.
But when we must say goodbye to our beloved pet, who will be there to comfort us? One of the most difficult and important parts of grief and loss is seeking to understand what has happened and that what you are feeling is okay. Your sense of loss may be tremendous. You have the right to grieve and you can take as much time as you need.
There are many stages of grief. Time frames vary from person to person. The stages include:
1. Shock/Disbelief/Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining (often with God)
4. Depression
5. Acceptance/Resolution/Recovery
If you feel that time is passing too painfully for you or you want some special caring support, there are many sources of support available to you.
